David Young strums his way to success with upcoming EP

Rising singer David Young couldn’t contain his excitement as he shared his experience as one of the guest performers at Pop Diva Kuh Ledesma’s Kuh Sings Her ABCs concert last August.

“It was a very, very big performance for me, a huge milestone. Not only was it an amazing experience on stage, but also off the stage. Being around Miss Kuh, who has such a lovely personality, was a wonderful experience,” David shared.

The 19-year-old singer also expressed his gratitude to the veteran artist for her mentorship as he explores the local music scene.

“I’d like to give a big shout-out and thank Miss Kuh Ledesma for all the lessons she taught me. I will carry them with me throughout my career,” said David.

Recently, the Filipino-American jazz singer signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN’s record label, Star Music. Shortly after, he released his debut single, “Long For Your Love.”

Now that he’s officially signed, Young has set his sights on launching a full EP, which will feature a mix of cover songs and original tracks that he’s written and composed himself.

When asked about the type of songs he plans to include, the up-and-coming singer said he wants a balance of slow and upbeat tracks.

“If I had to choose, I’d want the songs to have heartfelt lyrics, but also be fun musically. Some slow, some more dance-oriented because I love dance music. Upbeat – that’s the word I’m looking for. Those are the kinds of songs I’d want on the EP,” he explained.

As for his original compositions, Young revealed that he draws inspiration from literature and poetry.

“I grew up reading books, and I think that became a source of inspiration for me. I take little bits from poetry, and that’s where a lot of my ideas come from,” he shared.

As a newcomer, he also expressed his appreciation for ABS-CBN Music’s creative director, Jonathan Manalo, who has guided him through the music-making process.

“Being surrounded by professionals like Sir Jonathan and witnessing the production process firsthand has been invaluable. I’ve also been lucky enough to be around other talented artists like Jeremy Glinoga,” he added.

“I’ve already had the opportunity to learn from some incredible artists, and I’m excited to keep absorbing little bits of knowledge from them. That’s really what I’m most excited about — continuing to learn from these greats,” Young concluded.
