NCAA kicks off historic 100th season with star-studded opening

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is launching its 100th season today, Sept. 7, with GMA Network as its broadcast partner. 

The opening ceremony, titled NCAA Siglo Uno: Inspiring Legacies, will take place at the Mall of Asia Arena, with Lyceum of the Philippines University serving as this season’s host.

The event will feature participation from all 10 member schools, including Lyceum, San Beda, Arellano, Benilde, Emilio Aguinaldo, José Rizal, Mapúa, Perpetual Help, San Sebastian, and Letran.

Attorney Roberto Laurel, president of Lyceum and NCAA Season 100 Policy Board, emphasized the league’s century-long legacy in shaping the country’s sports industry, producing athletes who have become icons in Philippine sports.

“NCAA continues to grow and flourish, producing legends and icons over the past 100 years. This centennial season celebrates everyone who has been part of this journey, and we expect it to be the most exciting season yet,” Laurel said.

The NCAA Season 100 Management Committee, led by Chairman Hercules Callanta of Lyceum, expressed excitement for the centennial season, underscoring the league’s role in nurturing character and skills among young athletes.

The season opener will feature performances by popular acts, including P-pop group SB19’s Justin De Dios and G22, performing the theme song “Own the Future.” GMA Synergy sportscaster Martin Javier and Sparkle artists Lexi Gonzales, Michael Sager, and Faith da Silva will host the event.

The Men’s Basketball tournament kicks off the competition, with Lyceum of the Philippines facing San Beda, followed by a game between Benilde and Mapúa. Other NCAA sports to follow include volleyball, swimming, taekwondo, and more.

Viewers can catch all the NCAA Season 100 action live on GMA and GTV, as well as through various streaming platforms, with international broadcasts available via GMA Pinoy TV and GMA News TV.

The opening of NCAA Season 100 is happening today at 12:00 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena. The event will be broadcast on GMA and Heart of Asia (HOA) on Sept. 8 at 10:05 a.m. Tickets for the Sept. 7 games are available at www.smtickets.com or at the Mall of Asia Arena Ticket Booth.

Follow the action throughout the season as GTV and HOA broadcast live games every Tuesday and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
