DND rejects transfer of Quiboloy custody to AFP

The Department of National Defense (DND) on Monday strongly opposed the custody transfer of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy in Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) facilities.

DND Spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said in a statement those facilities are subject to strict operational security protocols.

“AFP is not the proper agency to have custody of suspects in criminal cases,” he underscored.

Quiboloy’s counsel Ferdinand Topacio on Sunday confirmed, his client surrendered to AFP, particularly to its Intelligence Service.

The KOJC leader is currently detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Lawyers for the KOJC said they filed a motion in court requesting that Quiboloy be transferred to the custody of the AFP from the PNP.

The move is out of concern for Quiboloy’s safety, KOJC chief legal counsel Israelito Torreon said in an interview after his visit to the pastor’s detention cell at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame.

“We filed a motion for the transfer of his custody to the AFP citing among others security reasons and we are hoping that the court would grant the same or at the very least a house arrest knowing that he is already 74 years old and we are hoping that any of those would be granted,” Torreon told the media.
