Half a million liters of oil waste collected from sunken tanker in Bataan

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday reported Harbor Star, the contracted salvor, has collected a total of 506,244 liters of oil waste so far from the sunken MT Terra Nova. 

“The contracted salvor, Harbor Star, reported over 506,000 liters of collected oily waste from 19 to 26 August 2024.” PCG said.

PCG also said that the salvor collected 121,724 liters of oil in ground zero last 24 August, the highest since 19 August.

Harbor Star said that the rate of oily waste flow during the 26 August 2024 operation was 12,944 liters per hour.

BRP Sindangan (MRRV-4407) on the other hand utilized a water cannon to agitate oil sheen at 500 meters northeast of ground zero.

Meanwhile, FES Challenger, the contracted salvor of MTKR Jason Bradley continued re-sealing and patching operations of the vessel’s manhole and air vents.
