Black Widow’s long overdue solo

It’s been over a year since the Avengers: Endgame broke the hearts of fans all over the world. Now, fans are finally going to witness what happened before Black Widow, one of the original members of the Avengers, made the ultimate sacrifice in order for the timeline to be restored.

Eleven years of playing Natasha Romanoff, Scarlett Johansson returns as the deadly Russian vixen and maybe for the last time in the much-awaited solo film of Black Widow.

Continuing where Captain America: Civil War (2016) left off, Black Widow highlights the Bourne-like journey of Romanoff as she reunites with her “family” played by Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz and David Harbour.

Together, they are on a mission to take down the supposedly dead Dreykov played by Ray Winstone who was the leader of the Red Room that kidnapped helpless girls and turned them into killing machines called the Widows and the one who planted the “family” in Ohio for a mission in the 90s.

Despite the dysfunctional comedic family beside Romanoff this time, Black Widow poses (yes, I’m using that word. Thank you, Yelena.) satisfying kinetic combat in its solid badass fights that Marvel fans are accustomed to.

Florence Pugh carried her role as Yelena, the younger “sister” of Natasha brilliantly while Rachel Weisz and David Harbour as Melina and Alexei, the mind and the muscle couple blended the family dynamic as they should.

There are no final words if Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will ever be back and with Marvel, they always aim to be unpredictable with these kinds of things.

But one thing’s for sure, Black Widow’s solo was long overdue but worth waiting for.
