QC council  approves resolution declaring AiAi, Darryl Yap ‘personae non gratae’

Comedienne AiAi Delas Alas, known for her role in the Tanging Ina movie franchise, and director Darryl Yap, who directed movies such as #Jowable, Tililing, and more, have been declared “personae non gratae” in Quezon City.

The seal behind Ai Ai shows an altered Quezon City seal

In the now approved resolution submitted by District IV Councilor Ivy Lagman, the comedienne and the director were accused of disrespecting the Quezon City official seal in a video posted on the latter’s social media page.

The video, which was released during the campaign period, shows AiAi playing a character named Ligaya Delmonte, an apparent jab at the re-elected Quezon City mayor, Joy Belmonte.

In the two-minute video, the background showed the triangular seal of Quezon City but altered with the names of the president and vice president-elect BBM and Sara. The caption for the video was “Mayora for Mike Defensor.”

“The malicious and unscrupulous defacing of the official seal of Quezon City ridiculed and casted dishonor to it, causing insult to the noble representation of the seal. The people of Quezon City will not let anyone disgrace the official seal of Quezon City for personal and selfish interests,” Lagman said in a statement.

Lagman also emphasized that the “seal has been the official coat of arms of the city since it was approved by the Office of the President and adopted by the City Council on Feb. 3, 1997, through Resolution No. 10320, S-1975.”

Darryl Yap refuses to apologizes for the video he directed during the campaign period

She also called upon the two personalities to apologize to the citizens of Quezon City for their misuse of their official seal in the video.

While the comedienne hasn’t issued a response to the declaration, Darryl Yap wrote a short response on his Facebook page, saying, “yoko nga.”
