Contrary to what showbiz columnist Cristy Fermin said, Willie Revillame’s contract with GMA Network is set to end on Feb. 15.
“Last November (2021) siya pumirma. Lilipat na sila sa GMA studio sa Monday,” Fermin, a close friend to Revillame, told reporters when recently asked if Wowowin will transfer to Advanced Media Broadcasting Systems (AMBS).
AMBS is controlled by the country’s richest man, Manny Villar. The company is taking over the television broadcast frequencies previously used by ABS-CBN, which was once the Philippines’ top media company until the government forced it off the air two years ago.
AMBS received a 25-year franchise to operate TV service last 2019. Congress approved Villar’s bid to own AMBS through his firm Planet Cable Inc. in November 2021.
“Hindi pa naman makapag-ere ang mga Villar, frequency lang ang nakuha nila,” Fermin added.
In a statement posted on GMA Network’s Instagram account, the leading network confirmed that Revillame’s show will have its final airing on the network on Feb. 11, Friday.
“Willie Revillame’s contract with GMA Network is set to end on the 15th of this month. His show Wowowin will air until Friday, February 11,” the statement said.
“We wish him good luck in his future endeavors,” the statement ended.
