NU coach’s resignation under review

COACH Eric Altamirano’s courtesy resignation with the National University Bulldogs is under review.

Athletic director Chito Loyzaga said this after he confirmed that head coach Eric Altamirano has tendered his resignation after six seasons.

“Yes, it’s confirmed that he has submitted his courtesy resignation. It is under review and management is deliberating on it,” said Loyzaga.

Altamirano quit the team while plans were being finalized on the NU Bulldogs’ rebuilding mode after their campaign in season 79 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament was over.

“The purpose of the submission is to give management a free hand in the direction of the future of the NU Bulldogs team,” added Loyzaga.

NU ended its campaign with a 53-77 loss to the Adamson Falcons, a fifth-place finish and a 5-9 record.

If Altamirano’s resignation is accepted, plans to groom and develop Alfred Aroga’s replacement will have to be turned over to the next coaching staff. Aroga is the only player graduating this season.

There are plans to have Senegalese Issa Gaye come aboard next season in place of Aroga.

Fil-Am recruits led by Joshua Bartlett are also in Team B.

Altamirano first handled the Bulldogs  six years ago and he was able to coach the Bulldogs to their first crown  in 60 years in 2014.

With him around,  the Bulldogs reached  the finals four times and became a legitimate contender for most seasons.
